General Trauma Services: Life is precious, dedication saves lives
In
2007 alone, Forrest General Trauma Services saw 2,500 trauma patients
from
Hattiesburg
and the hospital’s surrounding counties. The hospital offers
24-hour emergency care with qualified physicians and highly-skilled
emergency nurses. The trauma team consists of general surgeons,
orthopedic surgeons, and neurosurgeons, backed by other specialties.
Forrest
General is rated as a Level II Trauma Center by the Mississippi
Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services. The hospital is the
only Level II Trauma Center in south
Mississippi
, and has been rated Level II since 2000. Forrest General is part of the
Southeast Trauma Care Region, which includes 11 participating hospitals
in southeast
Mississippi
, of which Forrest General is the Lead Agency as the Level II facility.
Countless
patients in the Pine Belt and beyond have depended on Forrest General
for expertise in trauma care. Without local trauma services, Pine Belt
residents or those people injured while traveling through the area might
have to be transported to another facility in a neighboring city or
across state lines for trauma care. Thanks to Forrest General’s
dedicated and talented staff, less than 3 percent of the hospital’s
trauma patients have to be transferred to another facility for a higher
level of care, the majority of these being burn and pediatric patients.
Forrest
General also provides all levels of care for critical access care
hospitals in south
